Hungarian 4/4 1810 Johann Baptist Schweitzer Workshop Violin

$6,200.00

German 4/4 violin labeled HC Silvestre and made by the Johann Baptist Schweitzer workshop.  Violin is in great condition with lovely varnish.

Description

This lovely, full size violin for sale was falsely labeled “HC Silvestre” several years after it was made.  Instead of being French, this violin was actually made around 1810 years ago, in the Schweitzer workshop.  Austrian Johann Baptist Schweitzer worked and had his workshop in Budapest until his death in 1865.  His main goal was to recreate the varnishes of the old Italian masters, but he produced many instruments in his own style, as well.  In the style of Schweitzer, this violin has very lovely brown varnish, although it is a bit thin on the back of the violin.  It has a good neck graft.  This instrument has a very nice, full sound that commands the attention of the room.  The only flaw with this Schweitzer Violin is a previously repaired minor top crack under the chinrest.

Priced at $6200.00, this violin would make an excellent and unique choice for an advanced high school or college violinist – an excellent Schweitzer violin!
