Description
This old full-size violin for sale is a rare one, indeed. It was made by Johann Stephan Thumhard in either Straubing or Munich, GERMANY (Bavaria), sometime before 1817. He was probably a pupil of Buchstedter because his violins, including this one, look much like Buchstedter’s. It has the look and sound of an older instrument – not very bright and perhaps a bit hollow sounding. The body is a dark brown color.nbsp; This Thumhard Violin has an extra long body length at 14 and 3/8 inches. It has numerous repairs, although none devalue the violin, and it has a hole in the back of the pegbox, presumably to hang it on the wall.
For $6200.00, the Thumhard is not a very strong sounding instrument; this violin sounds more like a baroque instrument, so it is more of a collector’s violin.
