German 16″ 1979 Gustav August Ficker “Sarasate” #2528 Viola

This 16 inch (full size) viola for sale was made in Mittenwald, GERMANY by the Gustav August Ficker company for William Lewis and Son importers.  G.A Ficker was known for making nice instruments and was cousins of the famed EH Roth.  This particular viola was made in 1979 and is a Stradivarius “Sarasate” model #2528, which is Ficker’s most entry level viola for Lewis and Son.  This viola is nicely built; it is well carved and the wood is good throughout.  The varnish is orange and the back is attractive.  There are few signs of wear on this 16″ Sarasate Viola; it was well maintained and has needed no significant repairs.  The tone is bold and projects well; it is not overly bright or overly dark.
